Empowered Professional Full Time Artists Believe THIS 1 Thing

Episode 38 Show Transcript - Empowered Artist Podcast

In this episode, I'm going to share with you the one thing that professional artists believe in, how it empowers them, and why it's essential for your success as an artist.

We'll also explore 4 common mistakes that artists often make when it comes to their beliefs about reaching the next level in their art careers.

What You Need to Believe Now to Reach the Next Level

So, what's the one belief that empowers professional artists? It's the belief that you have to anoint yourself as a professional artist.

There's no magical moment when someone else will declare you a "real" artist.

No accolades or certificates will distinguish you between an amateur and a professional. You have to make that declaration for yourself.

Whether you've sold your first piece or not, you deserve to be paid gorgeously for your work. You have to believe that you are capable of reaching the next level in your art career because your passions are worth it – if you believe they are. Your belief in yourself is the foundation upon which your entire art business is built.

4 Common Mistakes Artists Make About Belief

Now, let's explore four common mistakes that artists often make when it comes to their beliefs about their art careers.

1. Waiting to Be Deemed a Professional Artist

One of the most significant mistakes artists make is waiting for someone else to declare them a professional artist.

There's no fairy coming around to wave a wand and say, "You're a real artist now; you may graduate to the next level." You have to make that decision yourself, regardless of whether you've sold your first piece.

2. Waiting for a Special Moment to Feel Validated

Many artists hold their breath, waiting for that special moment – like selling a big painting or getting an art show – to feel validated. But you must believe that you are a badass artist right now.

Your self-belief shapes your daily habits and drives everything you do as a creator and business owner.

3. Looking for External Validation in the Typical Places

Your worth as an artist is not tied to external factors like your social media follower count or getting into a gallery show. Seeking approval from others, whether it's your parents or friends, should not define your self-worth.

You have to walk your own path as an Artpreneur, and sometimes, even well-intended advice can be shaped by others' perceptions and fears.

4. Looking for External Validation from Customers or Sales

Your art's value is not dictated by your sales or customers.

You are the one who determines your value as an artist.

Believe that your art is valuable, and your clients will feel that energy.

If your sales aren't where you want them to be yet, remember that marketing your art is a skill that you can learn and develop over time.

My Booya! Moment Story

I want to share a personal story with you. When I started my full-time art business, everything seemed stacked against me. I had just been laid off, had no income, no customer list, and no family support.

Plus, I knew very little about the art industry, and I battled chronic migraine pain daily. But guess what? I had my "Booya" moment!

In my first year, I learned countless new skills, sold over 100 of my own paintings, and grew a 6-figure art business.

My life transformed, and I realized the power of validating myself.

I proclaimed myself capable and determined, even when others doubted me. Your self-belief can make all the difference in your journey as an artist.
